As a society, we do not grieve well. We expect grief to look and play out in specific ways. As grief is a natural path of life, counselors often bring their perception and experience of grief to the therapy room, not setting clear boundaries and becoming too emotionally involved with clients in grief. They become culturally insensitive, unintentionally disrespecting their clients' cultural beliefs, practices, and values, imposing their own cultural biases on clients. If clinicians are not careful, their emotional reactions during grief counseling may be projected onto their clients, unduly creating countertransference in the therapy room. Grief counselors must be culturally competent and aware of how cultural factors impact the grieving process. Failure to do so may lead to ethical concerns and ineffective counseling. This workshop will look at the grieving process from the perspective of different cultures and subcultures. It will also highlight expressions of grief and the counselor's role in setting boundaries, being culturally sensitive, and practicing cultural competence in grief work.
Participants will be able to:
· Discuss the establishment of clear and appropriate boundaries to prevent overstep in grief counseling
· Identify ethical principles related to addressing culture in the grief therapy room
· Discuss cultural sensitivity/competence and counselors need to avoid imposing their own cultural biases on clients

This workshop addresses the best practice approach in caring for those served in environments addressing trauma. It identifies helpful results when an organization is aware of and addresses trauma responses, not only in their clientele but also in their staff. A trauma-informed organization adequately recognizes that those being served have a history of trauma; how they interact with these individuals can worsen their mental and behavioral well-being. Trauma-informed care requires that everyone is aware of the impact of trauma on an individual and how to avoid a continuation of traumatizing those they serve.

Individuals who struggle with substance use disorders are more likely to be diagnosed with a co-occurring mental disorder than those who do not. There are many mental disorders that may co-occur with addiction. There continues to be a gap between the need of those struggling with Co-occurring Disorders (COD) and the actual treatment received. Several reasons contribute to the gap, including a shortage of trained providers, and professional burnout. Providers can bridge the gap of treatment by understanding how to screen, and identify symptoms of a co-occurring disorder.
Objectives:
Understanding the complexity of CODS
Knowing how to screen and assess
Learning strategies for working with CODS

Grief is as unique as each of us in our family experiences. The subject of grief and loss has transformed from what many of us understood and learned grief to be. We are now viewing grief through the lenses of the human experience and are suggesting moving away from the medical model of grief and loss. Understanding our response to grief developmentally will better equip clinicians to support grievers in a way to help them move through grief instead of the medical model of getting over grief. This workshop will be experiential. Applicable developmental interventions will be provided to use immediately in the therapy room.

Meet standards for Ethics & Supervision Hours for all disciplines including Social Workers
Why change a good thing? Maybe because it needed to be changed! As gatekeepers of the profession, it is essential that we understand the reason we do what we do and garner tools to support trainees to do no harm to clients. Clinical supervision is a space to explore the effects of our work and make sense of the feelings our work evokes. It provides the opportunity to replenish reserves and bolster resilience by considering new strategies. If supervision is done correctly, everyone in the room can consolidate learning and celebrate achievements. If you are a new or seasoned Clinical Supervisors or is curious about the role of a Clinical Supervisor, this training is for you. We will utilize the ACA code of ethics, to focus on central principles of clinical supervision and guidelines for new and seasoned supervisors to help outline the varied functions of a supervisor. Because someone is a great therapist, does not mean that they are fit to be a supervisor. We will discuss prominent models of supervision and the benefits of using a model in the supervisory room. Understanding the developmental levels of counselors and clinical supervisors, within a cultural context is important for both the supervisor and trainee. All this will unfold in the Clinical Supervision and Professional Development Of The Counselor training.
Participants will gain insights into :

Since the start of the pandemic, 84% of adults reported feeling at least one emotion associated with prolonged stress, according to the American Psychological Association. The pandemic has forced us to pay attention to how we have been living our lives. It also forced us to look at something we have been avoiding - prolonged stress. If unmanaged, stress will be felt not only by you but also by those in your sphere of influence. Stress produces visible and invisible by-products, of which many of us are unaware. We know we are not our usual selves, but we cannot put our “finger on it”. Unless we begin to address the “elephant in the room”, many more will become more ill. For clinicians, this training will identify the use of the various discipline’s codes of ethics to support the importance of managing stressors.
Participants will:
· Understand the impact of stress on our bodies based on life-roles
· Develop appropriate responses to change
· Learn and develop effective strategies to minimize stress
