As a society, we do not grieve well. We expect grief to look and play out in specific ways. As grief is a natural path of life, counselors often bring their perception and experience of grief to the therapy room, not setting clear boundaries and becoming too emotionally involved with clients in grief. They become culturally insensitive, unintentionally disrespecting their clients' cultural beliefs, practices, and values, imposing their own cultural biases on clients. If clinicians are not careful, their emotional reactions during grief counseling may be projected onto their clients, unduly creating countertransference in the therapy room. Grief counselors must be culturally competent and aware of how cultural factors impact the grieving process. Failure to do so may lead to ethical concerns and ineffective counseling. This workshop will look at the grieving process from the perspective of different cultures and subcultures. It will also highlight expressions of grief and the counselor's role in setting boundaries, being culturally sensitive, and practicing cultural competence in grief work.
Participants will be able to:
· Discuss the establishment of clear and appropriate boundaries to prevent overstep in grief counseling
· Identify ethical principles related to addressing culture in the grief therapy room
· Discuss cultural sensitivity/competence and counselors need to avoid imposing their own cultural biases on clients

The Silent Struggle of Postnatal Mental Health (Beyond Postpartum Depression)
Postnatal (PND) also known as postpartum depression (PPD) is a frequently overlooked mental health issue that affects many mothers worldwide, typically emerging within the first year after childbirth. Challenges such as sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion can significantly impact a mother's ability to care for herself and her baby. Beyond PPD, other childbirth-related mental health issues often go unnoticed by healthcare providers, affecting not just the mother and baby but the entire family system, including fathers. Due to varying risk factors and many undetected symptoms, early identification through screening and support from clinicians is vital to addressing this silent struggle. It is essential to not only address PND but also to raise awareness, advocate, and establish support systems to ensure all parents receive the necessary care during the delicate postpartum period.

Meet standards for Ethics & Supervision Hours for all disciplines
Why change a good thing? Maybe because it needed to be changed! As gatekeepers of the profession, it is essential that we understand the reason we do what we do and garner tools to support trainees to do no harm to clients. I remember what it felt like when I started this journey as a Clinical supervisor. There were many unanswered questions while navigating doing no harm and being a gatekeeper. As Supervision expectations change and improve, many are unsure how to maneuver basic supervision. If supervision is done correctly, everyone in the room can consolidate learning and celebrate achievements. If you are a new Clinical Supervisors or are curious about the role of a Clinical Supervisor, this training is for you. We will utilize the ACA code of ethics, to focus on central principles of clinical supervision and guidelines for new and potential supervisors to outline the varied functions of a supervisor. The workshop will attempt to help you identify whether you are willing to take on the responsibility of being a supervisor. Although someone is a great therapist, does not mean that being a supervisor is a good fit. We will review prominent models of supervision to help you understand the benefits of using a model in the supervisory space. Understanding supervision within a cultural context is important for both the supervisor and trainee. All this will unfold in the Counseling Clinical Supervision training series.
Workshop series 1: Clinical Supervision for Newbies: Foundational guidelines and rationale for supervision; (Things New Supervisors Should know)
Workshop series 2: Change is certain in Supervision: New rules, Laws and Documentation
Workshop series 3: Models of Clinical Supervision
Workshop series 4: The evaluation process: IDP, Giving and receiving feedback, addressing problems during evaluation
Workshop series 5: Cultural Awareness and Cross-cultural Supervision

Individuals who struggle with substance use disorders are more likely to be diagnosed with a co-occurring mental disorder than those who do not. There are many mental disorders that may co-occur with addiction. There continues to be a gap between the need of those struggling with Co-occurring Disorders (COD) and the actual treatment received. Several reasons contribute to the gap, including a shortage of trained providers, and professional burnout. Providers can bridge the gap of treatment by understanding how to screen, and identify symptoms of a co-occurring disorder.
Objectives:
Understanding the complexity of CODS
Knowing how to screen and assess
Learning strategies for working with CODS

Grief is as unique as each of us in our family experiences. The subject of grief and loss has transformed from what many of us understood and learned grief to be. We are now viewing grief through the lenses of the human experience and are suggesting moving away from the medical model of grief and loss. Understanding our response to grief developmentally will better equip clinicians to support grievers in a way to help them move through grief instead of the medical model of getting over grief. This workshop will be experiential. Applicable developmental interventions will be provided to use immediately in the therapy room.

Since the start of the pandemic, 84% of adults reported feeling at least one emotion associated with prolonged stress, according to the American Psychological Association. The pandemic has forced us to pay attention to how we have been living our lives. It also forced us to look at something we have been avoiding - prolonged stress. If unmanaged, stress will be felt not only by you but also by those in your sphere of influence. Stress produces visible and invisible by-products, of which many of us are unaware. We know we are not our usual selves, but we cannot put our “finger on it”. Unless we begin to address the “elephant in the room”, many more will become more ill. For clinicians, this training will identify the use of the various discipline’s codes of ethics to support the importance of managing stressors.
Participants will:
· Understand the impact of stress on our bodies based on life-roles
· Develop appropriate responses to change
· Learn and develop effective strategies to minimize stress
